Membership

To Become a Midlothian Bible Church (MBC) Family Member

From our MBC Family Constitution: “We believe that all those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ are members of the universal church, the body of Christ (Eph. 4:14-16); however, the New Testament also emphasizes the importance of believers gathering together in local churches (Heb. 10:25). The criteria for membership in the local church should be the same as in the universal church; therefore, membership in Midlothian Bible Church shall be acquired by the applicant upon affirmation of personal faith in Jesus Christ”.

The applicant shall be interviewed by an elder, pastoral staff or a deacon in regard to personal salvation and all members received by an elder, pastoral staff or a deacon shall be publicly presented to the church.

Therefore to become a Member of the Midlothian Bible Church Family a person needs to:
1)   Trust the Lord Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord, so they are in His family
2)   Meet with an MBC Leader (Elder, Pastoral Staff, Deacon) in order to hear how you came to know Jesus and to answer any questions you might have about our family.

We are so excited that you want to be part of our family, but we also just view this as the beginning of our relationship and pray that it will deepen. Trusting Jesus makes you a precious son or daughter of our Lord and the Lord wants you to rejoice in that relationship.  The Lord does not want you to stay a spiritual baby in His family, but He desires you to grow into a spiritually mature Christlike adult through the power of His Spirit.  Therefore, we look forward to encouraging and helping you grow in your relationship with the Triune God and your relationship with your new church family.

As a church family, we commit to:
  • Shepherd your family – Our leaders willingly, eagerly, joyfully and voluntarily desire to care for you and your family (1 Peter 5:1-4)
  • Pray for you –
    • That the Lord will give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God (Eph 1:17)
    • That you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe in Him (Eph 1:19) and that you will walk in the power of the Spirit moment by moment (Galatian 5:22)
    • That your love may abound more and more and keep growing in knowledge and understanding (Phil 1:7)
    • That you may live pure and blameless lives until Christ returns (Phil. 1:10)
    • That you will experience the confident hope of what God has reserved for you in heaven (Ephesians 1:18; 1 Thessalonians 1: 5)
  • Preach and Teach the Word of God – we will faithfully and carefully teach you God’s Word
  • Equip you as a believer priest to do the work of the ministry
  • Encourage and help you grow into Chrsitlike maturity
  • Give you opportunities to worship the Lord, to fellowship with other believers, to grow with a small group of believers, to serve in the Body of Christ and to be active participates “making disciples of all nations”

In developing this deeper relationship, we hope you will commit to:
  • Grow in your relationship with and worship of the Triune God – Titus 2:11-12
  • Connect with a small group (Sunday school, small group, bible study group, service/ministry group) of family members – Acts 2:42-47
  • Practice the two major ordinances - participate in believer’s baptism at some point in your life (does not have to be at our church) and regular partake of the Lord’s supper (Communion) –Romans 6; 1 Corinthians 11
  • Serve our Father’s Kingdom – Mark 10:45;  Philippians 2
  • Share Jesus with your Family, Friends, and Community – Act 1:8
  • Become a Global Christian and reach out to the Nations (in addition to your offerings, consider individually supporting missionaries through prayer and finances, sponsoring a needy orphan, etc) – Matthew 28:18-20
  • Be willing to submit to our leaders as those having to give an account for your souls – Hebrews 13:17
