About MBC Youth

A little Philosophy (Why we’re here and what we’re about)

Up ‘til now, your Momma took care of everything: shoved food in your mouth, dressed you up for school, and tucked you in at night. Her job was to tell you what was good and what was bad: taking candy from strangers is bad; saying “thank you” is good. Lying and stealing are bad. Your job was to nod your head up and down, and obey. No questions why or why not. Just do it. Whatever Mommy said, went. The same may have been true with what you heard about Jesus and the Christian life: “Jesus is God, the Bible is God’s word, and good Christians go to church and don’t ask any questions”. And your job was to nod your head and sing along, “Jesus loves me this I know, for my Mommy told me so”.

Well, teenage life is when you start asking questions: “Why do we do this?” “How do I know this is true?” “Why do my friends believe differently than me?” In Deuteronomy 6:20, Moses tells parents, “In the future, when your son (or daughter) asks you, 'What is the meaning of the…laws the Lord our God has commanded you?, tell them…'” Notice he doesn’t say, “If they ask…”, he says “When they ask…”. Way back then, Moses knew about teenagers. He knew it was time for them to start asking questions. And he knew that part of becoming convinced of the truth, is asking questions. That’s the first step in discovering real truth!

At Midlothian Bible Church, we don’t shy away from asking tough questions. We really believe that teenage life is the time to start “Owning your own faith and learning to give it away”. Momma’s faith won’t do anymore. It’s got to be your own! And we’re committed to helping you discover why it’s true and how it can carry you through life.

We do this by combining great times of fun, great worship, creative teaching, and significant prayer and accountability to help you wrestle with what it means to follow Jesus as a 21st century teenager. Check out our website for all the awesome things we’ve got goin’ on to help you grow in your faith. But…don’t stop there!  You gotta come to experience it for yourself!
